Hiking in Torres del Paine, part 2
Not sure if this is the Refugio that the North Carolina couple was talking about but it's very nice. Ski-lodge like accommodations, fresh baked bread and a killer view of glaciers hanging over the Vallé Francais.
We opted to spend an extra day here -- we can resupply with bread and canned tuna for lunches and pay for dinner and breakfast in the Refugio, thus not denting our carefully rationed food supply. Amy and Chip went up the valley this morning for a day hike while Tony and I headed out on what we thought would be a six hour day hike. Turns out that that the Refugio is only two hours from Campamento Italiano -- not six -- giving us an unexpected half-day off. Perhaps we can stay at, or camp near, the Hostelaria Los Torres which would allow us to squeeze another day out of our food supply.
Recommendations:
- Here! (Refugio Los Cuernos): Damn the food is good! Campsites are not numerous and not that flat, but the baños have toilet paper and the sell some basic provisions. Service is amazing and so friendly.
